Set of Four Carved Empire Revival Dining Chairs

A matched set of four unusually handsome carved timber dining chairs, probably dating from the early to mid-20th century and made in the grand Empire and Regency Revival tradition. Each chair has a wonderfully sculptural gondola-form back, with carved swan-neck terminals, sweeping side rails and turned decorative front legs.

The curved, embracing gondola silhouette was a signature of Empire seating, while the swan motif brings a particularly theatrical bit of period glamour. These have all the drama of an important dining room, but with enough whimsy to feel entirely at home in a colourful modern interior.

The seats have been recently and professionally reupholstered in a blue and cream geometric vintage woven fabric, giving the carved frames a brilliant fresh lift. They are finished with flame-retardant foam, so they are ready for long lunches, lively suppers and the occasional very late night around the table.
