A one-off Amalfi lemon wine box stool from the FLARA COLLECTS Orchard Series, made from an original wooden wine crate with a hand-painted linen seat and contemporary black metal hairpin legs. An excellent occasional stool for a hallway, kitchen or dressing table.

The wine crate began life holding Ségla Margaux, the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, one of Margaux’s celebrated Second Growth estates in Bordeaux. Ségla is made to offer a more immediately approachable expression of the château’s elegant style, typically bringing together Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with smaller quantities of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Expect the classic Margaux notes of blackcurrant, blueberry, violets and cedar, with soft, silky tannins and just enough polish for a proper long lunch. A rather distinguished past life for a stool, we think. We have kept this information visible because it is part of the object’s story, a pleasing trace of cellars, long lunches and a former life transporting something rather good.

The padded top is upholstered in linen hand-painted by a local linen artist for our Orchard Series. Bright, sunshiny Amalfi lemons and glossy green leaves stretch across a soft natural linen ground, giving the piece a proper dose of Mediterranean optimism. The artwork has been sealed, so the linen can be enjoyed and used as any other upholstery fabric would be.

Set on contemporary black metal hairpin legs, the stool has a crisp, graphic silhouette that lets the warmth of the wood and the cheerful linen do their work. Keep it in a kitchen for an extra perch, place it in a hall for taking off boots, or slide it beneath a dressing table. A former wine crate, now a very useful and particularly sunny little piece of furniture.
