We are completely besotted with this tiny white ceramic camel and very nearly kept it for ourselves. His glossy ivory finish, splendidly sculpted face and smart saddle-like opening make him a particularly charming little piece of mid-century-style ceramic whimsy.

Likely made between the 1960s and 1980s, this reclining camel follows the wonderful tradition of decorative animal planters that became so popular in the mid-20th century. We have not attributed a maker, but the beautifully modelled form and textured, saddle-style detail make him far more characterful than your average pot.

Fill him with a few small flowers, use him for bits and bobs, or, at a push, make him the most eccentric pen holder in the room.
