A pristine blue and white Burleigh Ware Willow gravy boat and matching saucer, full of English charm and perfect for a characterful dining table or a small arrangement of flowers.

A glorious piece of everyday English pottery, this blue and white Burleigh Ware Willow gravy boat comes with its matching saucer and is in pristine condition. Its elegant pouring shape, generous handle and richly detailed cobalt blue decoration bring instant charm to a table, with just the right amount of ceremony for gravy, custard or something altogether more ambitious.

Burleigh began in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, in 1851 and became known for beautifully patterned earthenware made at Middleport Pottery. The Burleigh name combines that of Burgess and Leigh, the partnership behind the pottery, while its distinctive designs are created through the traditional tissue-transfer process that gives blue and white wares their wonderfully intricate detail.

The Willow pattern has long been loved for its romantic blue and white decoration and enduring place in English table settings. We rather liked this one filled with flowers. A few sweet peas, garden herbs or a small clutch of narcissi turn it into a very handsome little vase. Why hide it in a cupboard until the Sunday roast when it could be making itself useful and looking lovely all week?
